Carolyn Spurway, MA, LPC, LMHC

Carolyn is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselor who specializes in helping adults navigate big changes, resolve unhelpful patterns of behavior, and improve self-esteem.

Clients often tell Carolyn how much she has helped them gain new insights and confidence. Carolyn knows what works, and loves helping clients experience real relief. Carolyn's favorite part of the counseling or coaching process is watching her clients transform and reach their goals.

She'll provide tools and insights to help you overcome unhelpful patterns of thinking and being in order to find resilience and feel more confident and at peace. You'll learn actionable strategies to better handle stress, communicate assertively, and feel more empowered.

Approach

Carolyn's collaborative approach to therapy and coaching allows clients to feel comfortable and understood. With her warm and engaging style, she works to understand your unique experiences and goals. Carolyn will use the therapeutic or coaching relationship to look at how patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating no longer serve you, and support you in shifting into new ways of being.

In session, Carolyn focuses on understanding exactly where you are coming from, meeting you where you are, and lighting up insights and actions that are aligned with your hopes and growth opportunities.

Carolyn loves to incorporate nervous system regulation strategies and evidence-based holistic health protocols to ground you, support healthy processing of difficult emotions and experiences, gently challenge patterns of behavior that are no longer serving you, and helping you identify and practice strategies that can shift you out of feeling stuck and overwhelmed, and towards feeling more empowered and capable.

Experience

Carolyn earned her MA in Counseling from the University of Colorado Denver in 2015. She started her career as a therapist intern at an intensive outpatient family therapy practice focusing on healing attachment wounds and improving family relationships. She then joined a residential eating disorder hospital working with individuals suffering from eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Carolyn then worked at an inpatient adolescent behavioral health hospital doing crisis stabilization and family therapy. In recent years, she's worked as a health and wellness coach and educator for a successful health-tech startup: supporting clients in making and sustaining profound lifestyle changes. Carolyn also has experience working as a behavioral health specialist for a virtual primary care startup - providing effective solution-focused brief psychotherapy.

Carolyn has a strong interest in the psychospiritual side of healing and seeks ways to unite body, mind and spirit in her work. In addition to her formal education in counseling, Carolyn has completed trainings in energy healing, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping), shamanic journeying, Reiki, and reading the Akashic Records.

She holds multiple licenses to practice counseling and psychotherapy in several states (CO, MI, MA, WI, TX, and IL, amongst others) and offers both virtual therapy and virtual life-coaching sessions.

Personal

Carolyn has lived in Colorado for most of her life. When she's not seeing clients, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, skiing, cooking (and rarely following recipes), laughing at her two very spirited young children's antics, soaking up information about the latest and greatest ways to optimize mental health and wellbeing, getting lost in a good book, and browsing the internet for adoptable puppies.
